About your hosts, Tony and Myrna Lane
We purchased the property in late 1999 and have nurtured and improved the garden to what it is today. We love our garden and want others to share and enjoy it too.
We rescued this previously landscaped garden which had been let go. When purchased, a lot of the shrubs and trees on the property were destined for the chop according to an "expert" we called in to give us an opinion. With the help of some local knowledge and a lot of hard work we have managed to get a lot of the shrubs back to their former glory.
We have also cleared some very overgrown areas and replanted with more rhododendrons and other shrubs which complement the original plantings. It took over a year to discover what was really there in some of the deep shrub borders! We are still discovering clumps of bulbs that have been lost for years and gradually replanting these at the front of the garden borders.
In a large garden like this there is always work to be done. We have spent the last few years trying to reduce the continual crops of poppies and forget-me-nots which take over given half a chance.
Gardening has always been one of our greatest passions and we fell in love with the garden even in its immature, neglected state. Only now are we starting to reap the benefits of our labours. None of the trees can be more than 15 years old but the growth has been incredible.
Despite the hard work we get great joy from the garden. We love the cherry grove in spring when the ground is pink with petals and in autumn when the leaves are glorious reds and yellows. We love the rhododendrons — some have flowers almost as big as your hand. Likewise the camellias which flower from May right through to November.
Whether you choose to have your wedding in our garden, stay with us overnight or just visit for a short while, we look forward to sharing our garden with you.
